Mrs. Vickie Lynn DeFreese Whitworth, age 67, of Beaverdam Road, Toccoa, passed away June 12, 2024 at home surrounded by her family after a valiant fight against cancer.

Born September 10, 1956 in Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Billy Lanae and Jean Sosby DeFreese, having lived majority of her life in Toccoa.  Vickie was a 1974 Graduate of Stephens County High School and was a member of Carnes Creek Baptist Church.

Vickie retired from the Stephens County Tax Commissioners Office where she began her career serving as clerk.  She was elected to serve as Tax Commissioner in 1980 and continued to serve until her retirement in 2008.  At the time she was elected, she was the youngest in the State of Georgia.  Following retirement, she served as a CASA volunteer and an advocate for Foster Children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clarence and Effie Whitworth; grandparents, Paul and Ruth Massey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marvin (Vernelle) Whitworth, Ellen (Hugh) Alexander, JoAnn DeFoor Whitworth, and Ann (Sam) Bennett; and by her beloved dog, Scarlett.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Dan "Johnny" Whitworth of the home; daughter, Lynae Elizabeth Whitworth of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Cale Daniel and Karen Petree Whitworth of Bloomingdale, Indiana; grandson, Finnigan Hoke "Finn" Whitworth of Bloomington, Indiana, who was the apple of her eye; her very special sister, Margaret Nix (Ray); brothers-in-law, Joe Whitworth of Toccoa, and Dean Whitworth (Peggy) of Carrolton, GA; her constant companion, Marley; and many other relatives and close friends survive.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 10 am until 11:45 am Saturday, June 15, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, June 15, 2024 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Greg Nix, the Rev. Jerrell Beatty, and Dr. Tim Miller officiating.

Burial will follow at Carnes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Stacy Whitworth, Keith Whitworth, Zack Whitworth, Kip Bennett, Tyler Bennett, and Ronnie Edmonds will serve as pallbearers.
