Mrs. Sylvia Smith Salter Ivie, age 87, of Toccoa passed away Monday, July 14, 2025 at her home.

Born September 19, 1937 in Thomaston, GA, she was the daughter of the late Joe T. and Grace Nation Smith.

In 1955, she graduated with honors from R. E. Lee Institute.  After high school, she attended Georgia State College for Women, and later in life graduated from Brenau College (summa cum laude) with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education.

While living in Thomaston, GA, she was employed by Thomaston Mills.  While in Toccoa, she  was a self-employed Court Transcriber.  She was also a member of the Toccoa First Baptist Church.  She loved and enjoyed her family very much.

Family members include her son, Jeff Salter (Terry), of Loganville, GA; daughter, Gina Mixon (Mickey), of Winder, GA; grandchildren, Blake Salter (McKenzie) and Hannah Pattillo (Curt); sister, Brenda Dawson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Elmo Salter; her second husband, Kenneth Felton Ivie; brother, Fred Smith; and sister, Betty Mailey.

The family will receive friends at Whitlock Mortuary in Toccoa from 6pm – 8pm Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home in Thomaston, GA from 10am until the service hour on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home Chapel in Thomaston, GA at eleven o'clock Saturday, July 19, 2025.

Burial will follow at Upson Memorial Gardens in Thomaston, GA.
