Obituary

Samuel Dean Mauldin (Sam), age 78, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025 at Stephens County Hospital after a long illness.

Born August 2, 1946 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Isabelle Bryan Mauldin.

He was retired after working many years at WABCO, Maypole Chevrolet, and Tabor Motor Company.  He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.  He was also a United States Army Veteran; he was drafted in 1966 and served in Germany.  He enjoyed welding, restoring old cars and cushman motor scooters.  But most of all, he enjoyed his family and especially his grandsons.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dianne Macomson Mauldin; daughter and son-in-law, Dene and Tim Hicks; son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Monica Mauldin; grandsons and their spouses, Andy (Sarah) Hicks, Matthew (Maley) Hicks, Hampton (Laiken) Mauldin; and two great-grandchildren, Myles Hicks and Zoey Carithers.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle Bryan Mauldin, and his in-laws, Robert Macomson and Helen Elrod.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 1pm until the service time Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary at three o'clock Sunday, June 15, 2025 with the Rev. Jerrell Beatty and the Rev. David Sosebee officiating.

Entombment will follow at Roselane Mausoleum.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers:  Andy Hicks, Matthew Hicks, Hampton Mauldin, Charles Cheek, Richard Pulliam and Ashley Hayes.  Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Jordan, Danny Jameson, and the members of the Fulbright Sunday School class.

Flowers are optional.  Donations may be made to New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jim Wade and his staff, the staff at Stephens County Hospital and Family Hospice of Gainesville.
