Obituary

Mrs. Roberta Abney Crunkleton, age 95, of Toccoa, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Born October 4, 1927 in Bleckley County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Charlie W. and Lucile Johnson Abney. Roberta graduated from Perry Business School and attended Truett McConnell College and North Georgia Technical College. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where she had served on various committees. Roberta taught Sunday School in the Preschool, Junior, and Adult Departments and served as WMU Director for many years. She was retired from WABCO with 31 years of service. She was also a member of the Stephens County Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Later she retired from the Stephens County Clerk of Courts Office and then worked part-time at Wal-Mart in Toccoa for 5 years. Roberta was an Alumni of the Leadership of Toccoa Class of 2002.

Family members include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronny and Lynn Crunkleton of Toccoa and Tony and Elaine Crunkleton of Eastanollee; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Barry Huckaby of Buda, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Cristi C. Carter (Jake), Kendra C. Guest (Shawn), Lindsey Crunkleton, Ashley Crunkleton Kelley (Duane), Wendi C. Albertson (Leonard), John Crunkleton (Kelli), Matthew Martin (Carrie), Lori Baskins (Rocky), Hope Huckaby Hunt, Micah Huckaby, Daniel Huckaby, Honor Huckaby, and Joseph Huckaby; 27 great-grandchildren, Cody Crunkleton (Lindsey), Katlynn Davis (Jared), Jay Albertson, Connor Carter (Amber), Cole Carter (Breleigh), Kyle Carter, Hannah Hunt, Cade Hunt, Austen Hunt, Justen Hunt, Ashley Colbert, Hunter Huckaby, Kate Crunkleton, John David Crunkleton, Caedmon Crunkleton, Cooper Crunkleton, Celia Mei Crunkleton, Ethan Cross, Ayden Cross, Kinsleigh Guest, Tyson Guest, Landon Baskins, Lucas Baskins, Lennox Baskins, Gavin Martin, Jasmine Martin, Taylor Kelley, Catherine Kelley, and Andrew Kelley; 6 great-great-grandchildren, Jase Crunkleton, Colton Crunkleton, Cody Lane Crunkleton, Clayton Davis, Knox Carter and Brenna Carter; one sister, Billie Gomez of St. Simmons Island, GA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John V. Crunkleton who passed in 2000; and two sisters, Abbie Dixon and Jean Bartel.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 5pm – 7pm Friday, February 24, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Andy Childs and Dr. John Crunkleton officiating.
Burial will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Grandsons and Great-Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
