Mrs. Mary Vaughn Burgess, age 94, of Toccoa, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at The Clary Center of Toccoa.

Born November 14, 1926 in Franklin County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Nina Julia Starrett Vaughn.  Mrs. Burgess was the widow of Duffie Burgess.

Mrs. Burgess was a former LPN with Stephens County Hospital, and was a homemaker.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Toccoa where she was a member of the Church Choir, the XYZ, and served on several Church Committees.  She was also a member of The Pilot Club and Garden Club in Toccoa.  Mrs. Burgess was known for being a great southern cook.

Survivors include daughter, Julia Symmonds (Richard), of Temple, TX, son, Michael Couch of Temple, TX, and daughter Melody Couch Eddy of Toccoa; grandchildren include, Brooke Symmonds Potgieter (Theo), Carson Symmonds (Cassandra), Trenton Symmonds (Ann), Carly Couch, Piper Couch, Natalie Eddy Edge (Kyle), and Matthew Eddy (Jen); great grand-children, Sage Symmonds, Bethany Grace Eddy, and Olivia Morgan Eddy.  Mary was preceded in death by her daughter,  Dorothy Jan Couch.

The family will receive friends at the Mortuary on Monday from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.

Funeral services will be held at one-thirty Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary, with the Rev. David Ritcey and Rev. Brett Sanders officiating.

Burial will follow at Roselane Cemetery.

Michael Couch, Richard Symmonds, Butch Smith, Joe Sewell, Mike Carroll, and Theo Potgieter will serve as pallbearers.

The family will be at the home of Melody Eddy.

Flowers are optional.  Those desiring may make memorials to the Toccoa First Baptist Church.
