Obituary

Margaret Faye (Robinson) Farmer of Toccoa passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025 at Pruitt Healthcare - Toccoa.  She was 93 years and eleven months old.

'Faye' Farmer was born February 10, 1931 in Gastonia, North Carolina.  She was the second daughter of John Hall Robinson and Roby Lee (Davis) Robinson.  Her siblings were Delilah (Robinson) Brandon Scruggs and the Reverend Carroll Robinson.  Faye graduated from Gastonia High School (Later Ashley High) in 1949.  She went to Lenoir Rhyne College where she served in student government and was named to Who's Who among college students.  Faye graduated with a BA in primary education in 1953.

In 1956, she married Jake Irvin Farmer (1928 – 2010), whom she met on a blind date.  They moved to the Atlanta area and began a family in 1957.  Jake moved the family to Brevard, North Carolina to work in the family business, before returning to the Decatur, Georgia area where they spent the next twenty years.  In addition to being a faithful and loving mother to her three children, Faye obtained a masters of education degree from Georgia State and taught school for several years.

In 1984, after their children had left home, Jake and Faye moved to Toccoa, Georgia.  For several years they worked with Fricks Landscaping and cared for both Jake's and Faye's aging mothers in their home.  They traveled, welcomed grandkids and served in the local community.  And they made dear friends wherever they went.

After Jake died, Faye continued to stay active in her community and love her kids and grandkids.  And anyone who knew her could talk about her love of gardening, her knowledge of plants, and her lifelong passion for pulling weeds.

Throughout her life, Faye was always involved in her local church.  She grew up attending Lutheran Chapel Church in Gastonia, was a pillar member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Decatur for two decades and faithfully attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Toccoa after arriving in 1984.

Faye Farmer was a woman of sincere faith in Christ, a servant of others and a caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She is survived by her brother, Carroll Robinson; her children, John Farmer, Andrew Farmer and Suzanne Farmer; grandchildren, Emily Witter, Craig Brinker Melissa Parris, Kelsey Shenk, Ben Brinker and Grant Farmer; and 19 great grandchldren.

Inurnment will take place in a private family ceremony with a public Celebration of Life Service to be planned for a later date.
