Mr. Loyd William Melton, age 85, of Martin, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia, GA.

Born April 6, 1941 in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Rev. Roy and Edna Smith Melton.

Mr. Melton retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation with 30 years of service as an Engineer.  He was a member of Eastanollee Baptist Church, and served in the Georgia Army National Guard.

Family members include his daughter, Deana Mitchell (Matt); grandchildren, Lainey Mitchell and Garrison Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Melissa Melton; sister, Anne Kight; brother, Allen Melton (Doris); sisters-in-law, Elaine Elrod Broussard and Pam Elrod Woodson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Joyce Elrod Melton; son, Ryan Melton; brother, Wayne Melton (Martha); and brother-in-law, Hulyn Kight.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 2pm until the service hour Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at three o'clock Sunday, June 14, 2026 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Ricky McFarlin officiating.

A private burial will be at Stephens Memorial Gardens.
