Obituary

Mr. Larkin Lewis Whiten, age 80, of Toccoa, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 at his home.

Born December 22, 1944 in Toccoa, he was the son of the late Larkin Jasper and Ida Collins Whiten.  He was a member of Tates Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Coats & Clark with 40 years of service and he was an excellent carpenter.  Lewis was a United States Army Vietnam Veteran and was awarded two Purple Hearts between October 25, 1966 and November 3, 1967.  Lewis was a devoted family man who loved his family.

Family members include his wife of 44 ½ years, Brenda Westbrook Whiten; sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Tonia Whiten of Dunnellon, FL and Bryan and Joyce Whiten of Nixa, MO; daughters and sons-in-law, Becky Whiten Goddard of Toccoa, Lavonda and Thomas Bush of Eastanollee, and Natalie and Rick Sauers of Toccoa; sister, Mae Whitt of Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Dustin Whiten, Samantha Whiten, Benjamin Whiten, Duncan Lovell, Hannah Lovell, Jacob Sims, Noah Whiten, Faith Whiten, Kaitlyn and Deion Crawford, Quentin and Lilly Bush, and Victoria and Matt Burkholder; great-grandchildren, Thacher, Maple, Juniper, Holly, Gabriel, Silas, Benson, and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Whiten; and five half brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 4pm – 7pm Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at one o'clock Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating.

Entombment will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Military Honors.

Rick Sauers, Deion Crawford, Duncan Lovell, Benjamin Whiten, Quentin Bush, and Noah Whiten will serve as pallbearers.

Flowers are optional.  Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Tates Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.

The family would like to say a special Thank You to Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care given to Lewis.
