Ms. "Joy" Denise Cash Powell of Toccoa, Georgia passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at her daughter's residence.  She was the daughter of Mrs. Janie Dover Cash and the late Joe Cash.  She was born September 28, 1960 in Toccoa.  Joy attended Stephens County Schools where she excelled and was Top 3 in her graduating class of 1978.  Throughout her high school career, she was additionally an active member of several clubs including, the Phileo club; Interact Club; Shalome; and Anchor Club.  As a senior, Joy was recognized as a superlative in the Vocational Tech Department, a winner of the Voice of Democracy Essay contest, Georgia Merit winner, and voted the Key Club Sweetheart.

Throughout her childhood, she visited Atlanta, Georgia many times to see her aunt Jeanette Cash Pritchett.  This would ignite a love of the city in her that would last a lifetime.  Most of her adult life she would live in Atlanta with brief periods of moving back to her hometown of Toccoa.  She had several different occupations but always remained in a secretarial position, usually for the president of a company.

Her last occupation was by far her favorite.  Joy was employed as an Executive Assistant for McKibbon Hospitality in Gainesville, GA for the past twenty years.  She greatly enjoyed her job/career and considered her co-workers family.

Joy was a strong and independent woman.  She possessed great organizational and leadership skills.  She was stylish and sophisticated and would even wear high heels to cut grass.

She loved the beach, flowers, cats, traveling, shopping, cooking, and the Georgia Bulldogs.

In addition to her mother, surviving family members include her daughter, Kelli Foster (Josh) of Toccoa; granddaughters, Madison Foster, Aliyia Foster, Ashlyn Foster and Bethany Foster; her sister, Jodi Rogers (Shane); her brother, David Cash; several nieces and a nephew; and her ex-husband, but very special friend, Jerry Powell (Lesa Bolman).

Visitation will be at the mortuary from 3:00 pm until the service hour on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at five o'clock Saturday, April 27, 2024 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Bill Thomas and Dr. Tom Smiley officiating.

Graveside services will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Following the graveside service, the family will host a Celebration of Life dinner at The Venue at the Star Theater, 55 W Doyle Street Toccoa, GA.  All family and friends are welcome to attend.

Jerry Powell, Josh Foster, David Cash, Shane Rogers, Roger Powell and Russell Powell                                                           will serve as pallbearers.

A very special thank you to Judy Townsend, our precious cousin.  There is no one that could have made mama feel more comfortable and loved during her battle.  I could never put into words what you mean to me for being there and loving us through the past 7 years.
