Obituary

Retired Sgt. First Class John Henry "Charles" Martin, age 85, of Martin, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020 at the home of his granddaughter in Carrollton, GA.

Born August 22, 1935 in Toccoa, he was the son of the late Frank and Myrtle Standridge Martin.  He was a member of Eastanollee Baptist Church and was retired from the United States Army as Sergeant First Class.  Mr. Martin served during the Korean Conflict and during Vietnam.

Family members include his wife, Betty Jean Evans Martin; sons and daughters-in-law, John Ricky Martin (deceased), Mike and Cheri Martin of Toccoa, Bobby and Gail Martin of Buchanan, GA, Allen Martin of Martin, GA, and Steve and Lynn Martin of Bremen, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Ann and Charles Evans, and Faye and Tommy Fowler; brother and sister-in-law, Frank, Jr. and Annette Martin and Evelyn Martin; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Martin.

Graveside services will be held at two o'clock, Friday, October 30, 2020 at Eastanollee Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ricky McFarlin and Rev. Richard Ivester officiating.  Burial will follow with Military Honors provided by the United States Army and V. F. W. Post 4346.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Matthew Martin, Dustin Martin, Nicholas Martin, Ethan Smith, Andrew Scott, and Brian Evans.  Kam Smith will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm Friday.

Due to the conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, social distancing will be observed.  Those attending the service are encouraged to wear a mask.

Flowers are optional.  Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the Currahee Military Museum.
