Obituary

Mrs. Jimmie Catherine Bell Alewine, age 96, of Lavonia passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at her home.

Born July 7, 1928 in Toccoa, she was the daughter of the late Isom Lester and Minnie Irene Morgan Bell.

Mrs. Alewine was a retired Production Manager with American Home Products in Doraville, GA, and was a part-time caterer.  She loved to cook and was an avid baker.  She loved the Lord, as she was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church; she was a choir member and Sunday School teacher, and was a tremendous fundraiser for the church.

Family members include her son, Glenn Alewine (Vanessa) from Suwanee, GA; daughters, Wanda Maddox (Marvin) from Lavonia, GA, and Joan Alewine; grandchildren, Stacey Alewine (Brian), Blake Alewine (Tiffany), Ryan Shaw, Clint Shaw (Jaylah), Michael Workman and Jennifer Clegg (Morris); great-grandchildren, Casey Cole (Chris), Claire Cole, Collette Alewine, Caitlyn Miller (Corey), Chloe Clegg (Evan) and Cierra Clegg; great-great-grandchildren, Emani Miller, Grayson Lane Jones and Jayden Glenn Taylor; sisters, Juanita Worley and Barbara Dooley; brothers, Howard Bell, James Bell and Joseph Bell (Linda); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Benjamin Alewine, Jr., and brother, Thomas Bell.

The family will receive friends at the Mortuary from 1pm until the service hour Thursday, October 10, 2024.

Funeral services will be held from the Chapel at Whitlock Mortuary at three o'clock Thursday, October 10, 2024 with the Rev. Fred Young officiating.

Burial will follow at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating.

Special thanks to caregivers, Jennifer Smith, Marcie Barrett, Tara White, Jessica Sheriff, Dr. David Yates and Morgan Carter.
