Mrs. Jewell Smith Burruss, age 94, of Toccoa, passed away Monday, March 23, 2020 at Pruitt Health of Toccoa.

Born December 27, 1925 in Toccoa, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Hayden and Florence Pierce Smith.

Jewell was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Family members include her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Carolyn Thurmond of Toccoa; grandchildren, Craig and Munique Thurmond of Toccoa and Amy Thurmond of Dawsonville, GA; great-grandchildren, Craig Thurmond, II and Alana Thurmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was the last member of her immediate family.

A private graveside service will be held at Broad River Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating.

Burial will follow.

Due to the current conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, the family will not be receiving friends.
