Mr. James Michael "Mike" Cothran, age 70, of Toccoa, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born April 21, 1951 in Toccoa, he was the son of the late James Millard "Jimmy" and Ozelle Sheriff Cothran. He was a member of Tom's Creek Baptist Church where he served as an Ordained Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Usher, and on the Benevolence Committee. Mike had worked for Pepsi, Coats and Clark, and was also a Bus Monitor with the Stephens County School System. Mike loved his students and they adored him as well. Mike loved his family, grandchildren, farming, and gardening. He enjoyed watching the GA Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves, and NASCAR. Mike was a United States Army Veteran.
Family members include his wife, Kathy Bolmon Cothran of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Crystal and Joshua Teague and Kim and Michael Babbitt all of Toccoa; grandchildren, Zack Cothran, Gavin Teague, Grant Babbitt, and Autumn Babbitt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Jill Cothran and Steve and Angie Cothran; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 2pm – 4:30 Thursday, October 14, 2021.
Funeral services will be held at five o'clock Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Tom's Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Marcus, Mr. Donald Keith, and Mr. Joshua Teague officiating.
Burial will follow at Tom's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Evan Alexander officiating at the Graveside Service. Military Honors will be provided by the Georgia Army National Guard and V. F. W. Post 4346.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Gavin Teague, Grant Babbitt, Roger Craven, Ronnie Hardman, Gene Hulsey, and Ray Dietz.
The School Bus Transportation Department, Cornerstone Sunday School Class, and former employees of Coats and Clark will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Flowers are optional. Those desiring may make memorial donations to Tom's Creek Baptist Church or to the church or charity of one's choice.
