Poppie's Obituary

This is to announce the sad passing of Jack Cleve Moore, native son of Thomaston, GA, son of Sarah Hancock Moore and Joe Ingram Moore, Sr. and brother of Judy Brabham, Jane Simmons†, and Joe I. Moore, Jr.†  He is survived by his beloved baby sister Judy, as well as his children LeeAnne Burkholder, Wade Moore and Lane Moore, his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his cherished wife Anne Printup Moore.

He is also survived by the army of friends, colleagues, competitors and admirers that he accumulated over a long lifetime. He left his mark on all those who encountered him. He was a coach, a manager, an umpire, and a referee and his impact on many through sports inspired and shaped generations of young people participating in the youth sports that he so loved to be a part of.

He did not fear death. He had made peace with it and was not troubled by its inevitable coming. He passed away accidently attempting to save his beloved dog Macie. She sadly joined him in death.

He was an avid golfer, a gifted fisherman, a vicious competitor. An authority on sports trivia he often stunned people with his memory and depth of knowledge, most particularly his beloved sport of baseball. He adored John Wayne and watched everything he ever acted in many times. Indeed, he could quote most of the screenplays of those films. Even into his eighties he was a voracious reader, and his mind kept its edge.

More than anything however was his love for his country. Having served honorably in The Korean war he was ever supportive of the generations of service members that came before and after him. He evolved with the times but never demonstrated disrespect, nor tolerated such, regarding his USA. He flew The American Flag daily at his home and was mindful to care for it and take it down to half-staff when the day required. He was, in short, a Patriot.

He will never be forgotten as long as all those referenced above keep him, his actions, his teachings and examples in their hearts. Jack Moore was certainly special and there is no describing how much he will be missed. To quote from his favorite western story, Lonesome Dove, he demonstrated "splendid behavior".

Mr. Moore's wishes were to be cremated.  A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
