Mrs. India Marie Cabe Stewart, age 81, of Toccoa, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born September 12, 1941 in Toccoa, she was the daughter of the late Verlyn Farris and Joan White Cabe. She was a member of Carnes Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School until 2020. India retired from the Stephens County School System as a Media Specialist with 37 years of service. She was a graduate of the University Of Georgia, Piedmont College, and Clemson University. India taught with Truett McConnell College as an English Professor and tutored many students over the years. She had a passion for sharing her faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. India was also a survivor of Polio.
Family members include her husband, Don Stewart; daughters and a son-in-law, Jill Rogers and Kirk of Toccoa and Julie Simmons of Toccoa; sons and a daughter-in-law, Jamey Stewart of Toccoa and Joey Stewart and Janet of Carnesville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joetta Cabe Ivester and Arnold and Sherrie Cabe McAllister and Tommy, grandchildren, Michael Stewart, Matthew Snyder, Morgan Simmons, Mason Simmons, Kole Rogers, Emily Stewart, Bryce Rogers, and Ethan Stewart; great-grandchildren, Adalyn Simmons, Kenlyn Simmons, and Colson Simmons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 5pm – 7pm Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Carnes Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Stewart, and the Rev. Jeff Caudell officiating.
Burial will follow at Carnes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Miller officiating at the graveside service.
The following Grandsons will serve as pallbearers; Michael Stewart, Matthew Snyder, Morgan Simmons, Mason Simmons, Kole Rogers, Bryce Rogers, and Ethan Stewart.
Flowers are optional. Those desiring may make memorial donations to March of Dimes, marchofdimes.org/donate.
