Henry G.
Stamey
May 18, 1943 — Nov 18, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Henry G. Stamey––loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather––who passed away on Monday, November 18 at the age of 81.
Henry was born on May 18, 1943, in Tournapull, Georgia to John and Rose Ellen Stamey of Toccoa, Georgia. He was a caring, devoted husband to Frances Coker Stamey for 61 years, sharing a life filled with happiness, unwavering loyalty, and cherished memories. Henry and Frances were married on September 29, 1963, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Toccoa, Georgia. As a father, he was a source of guidance, support, and strength for his children, Russell (Leslie) and Natalie. His love and wisdom continue to resonate in their lives.
As a grandfather, Henry was a cherished figure in the lives of Jackson (Diana), Sarah (Garrett), Christine, Gabriella, and Sophie, showering them with affection and joy. He found great happiness in watching his growing family thrive, and he took immense pride in the accomplishments of his loved ones.
Throughout his life, Henry was known for his joviality and friendly nature, and he never met a stranger––only a future friend. He enjoyed connecting with others from near and far as a ham radio operator, just like his father before him. Henry was also a faithful Tennessee Titans fan, and he loved watching his team play on a Sunday afternoon with his wife Frances by his side.
Henry's childhood was spent in Toccoa, Georgia. He graduated from Stephens County High School in Eastanollee, GA and earned degrees in engineering and management from Southern Technical Institute in Marietta, GA. He worked as a plant manager at Darsey Manufacturing in Tallapoosa, GA and at Horace Small Manufacturing in Nashville, TN. Henry also held various successful positions in sales. Henry's heart called him to service as a deacon at multiple Baptist churches and as the president of the Tallapoosa Jaycees. His legacy of love, integrity, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Henry is survived by his wife, Frances Coker Stamey; children, Russell and Natalie; sister, Nancy Stamey; grandchildren, Jackson, Sarah, Christine, Gabriella, and Sophie; and nephew, Bryan (Deena) Coker. He is also survived by many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by parents, John and Rose Ellen Stamey; parents-in-law, Truette and Georgia Faith Coker; brother-in-law, Bobby (Cobina) Coker and nephew, Tim Coker.
We find comfort in knowing that Henry's (Dad/Papa) legacy lives on in those forever changed by his love and support. His memory will always be held dear in our hearts.
Visitation will be at Whitlock Mortuary at 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm in Toccoa, Georgia on Saturday, November 23. A graveside service will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Henry Coker officiating.
