Obituary

Dr. Roderick "Roddy" Christopher Turner, age 77, of Anderson, passed away on September 5, 2026. Roddy was born on November 20, 1948, to the late James and Erminie Turner.

Called from the Monaghan mill village into the ministry, Roddy dedicated most of his life to serving others as a pastor. From the pulpit, he had a gift for making Scripture come alive and for meeting people exactly where they were. His congregations would tell you Roddy could make you laugh and convict you in the same breath — always with the goal of bringing you closer to the love of Jesus.

Away from the pulpit, Roddy treasured time with his family — his wife, sons, grandchildren, and siblings were his biggest source of joy. He loved a good meal out, cheering on Clemson football, and enjoying a fine cigar or a good cup of coffee. He also cherished long weekend getaways, whether relaxing in the mountains or soaking up the sun at the beach.

Stubborn to the end, Roddy held his convictions close, but it was all part of the loving, faithful, and funny man those closest to him knew him to be.

Roddy is survived by his wife, Kay Turner; his sons, Chris Turner (Julie) and Jason Turner; his brother, Jimmy Turner; his sister, Kathy Elgin; and his grandchildren, Collin, Jack, Ella, and McKinley Turner.
