Mrs. Dixie Rose Garrett Rich, age 95, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024 at the Clary Care Center in Toccoa.
Dixie was born September 26, 1928 in Corbin, Kentucky to the late John and Rose Garrett. She was the youngest of four children, Jack Garrett, Glenn Garrett, and Eunice Garrett Cox. Dixie graduated with a degree in home economics from Eastern Kentucky University where she met Al, her future husband. After marriage, Al and Dixie lived in a variety of cities, including Richmond, KY, Richmond, VA, Charlotte, NC, Rock Island, Il, and New Orleans, LA, before moving to Atlanta in 1958, where they lived for almost 40 years. In 1994, following Al's retirement, the couple moved to Toccoa, where they were members of the First Baptist Church. They enjoyed getting to know church members as well as many of their neighbors on Wesley Circle.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patti Rich Chism and Billy of Toccoa; and her son and daughter-in-law, Mike Rich and Pat of Marietta. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Albert P. Rich, Jr., who died in 2007.
Other survivors are grandchildren, Salli Chism Lehman and Tim of Thomasville, GA, Garrett Chism of Athens, Caroline Rich Barwick and Billy of Roswell, and Molly Rich Ball and Rob of Woodstock; eight great-grandchildren; Rose, Joe and Anna Lehman of Thomasville, GA, Hayes Chism of Athens, Lily and Amelia Barwick of Roswell, and Will and Henry Ball of Woodstock; and her older brother, Jack Garrett.
