1SG Marcia Joan Oshinski, age 58, of Toccoa, GA, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020.
She was predeceased by her mother, Joan Oshinski and is survived by her father, Ralph Oshinski of Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Cheryl Stewart of Lawrenceville, GA; brothers, Kevin Oshinski of Buford, GA, Steven (Stacy) Oshinski of Ponce Inlet, FL, David (Dana) Oshinski of Suwanee, GA and Dennis Oshinski of Buford, GA; twelve nieces and nephews; eighteen great-nieces and nephews; and lifetime friend SFC Timothy Ingram of Toccoa, GA.
She was a graduate of Shamrock High School (Class of 1979) and the University of Georgia (Class of 1984) where she also performed regularly with the UGA Redcoat Bands. After directing the Tapp Middle School Band program and assisting with the McEachern High School Band in Powder Springs, GA, Marcia went on to serve in the US Army and perform with the US Army Bands. Her service led her to assignments at Ft. George Meade, MD, Ft. Rucker, AL, Ft. Sam Houston, TX and Ft. Lewis, WA, as well as overseas assignments in Germany, South Korea and Hawaii. Her active deployments included time served in Bosnia and Iraq, where she was awarded the Bronze Star Medal of Valor. She retired in 2016 from Ft. Knox, KY after 27 years of service. In retirement she went on to serve as the Quartermaster for VFW Post 4346 in Toccoa, GA. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she played piano for Masses and was a member of the Ladies of St. Mary's. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020, at 11:00AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with Father Henry Thang Pham serving as celebrant. The family will receive friends Friday, March 6, 2020 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with a Rosary service at 7:00PM at Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund, 231 Rothell Road, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 or VFW Post 4346, PO Box 644, Toccoa, GA 30577.
