Mr. Larry William Holder, age 81, of Toccoa, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026 at his home after a long illness.

Born October 27, 1944 in Michigan, he was the son of the late Wendell and Janet Jones Holder.

Larry grew up in church and graduated from Berkley High School in Michigan.  He attended military school in Camphill, AL, and Gordon Military College.  Later he graduated from North Georgia Technical School in 1973.  He was the General Manager of the Toccoa Golf & Country Club from 1972–1984.  He was the owner/operator with his wife, Margie, of the Gables Restaurant in Toccoa from 1985–1988.  He was owner/operator of Buffalo's Café in Pleasant Hill with Margie and partners, Chuck & John Maypole from 1990–2003.  He was owner/operator of Pizings Café in Buford, with Margie, son Lonnie and partner Robert Westmoreland from 2006–2009.  He and Margie retired in 2009.

Larry was known for his quick wit and funny sense of humor.  From his work at Toccoa Country Club through his restaurant adventures, he entertained while working.  Before coming to Toccoa, he worked at his favorite place, The Green Lantern (known for their "best PIZZAS") in Madison Heights, MI.  He also rode motorcycles, but traded his leather jacket in for suits to become General Manager of the Toccoa Golf & Cuntry Club in 1972.  He joined the Club Managers Association and the Toccoa Elks Club.

Larry enjoyed going to the Masters Golf Tournament, thanks to a friend, Marilyn McNeely.  He appreciated going to Lake Rabun, thanks to the Pruitt and Maypole families.  And he loved his house and pontoon on Lake Hartwell, thanks to fun with so many lake friends.  Larry and Margie retired in 2009, where he played gin-rummy with his Elks brothers for several years.  He loved his 3-5 mile walks and Harley rides; and fast cars like vets and camaros.  He was always a dare devil and a fun-type guy.  He made many friends and kept them.  His wife and son will really miss him, his love and that humor.

Family members include his wife, Margie Louise Glenn Holder, of Toccoa; son, Lonnie Holder (Tiffany), of Gainesville, GA; sisters, Phylis Gatto and Suzanne Hurley; sister-in-law, Debbie Brooks(Jim); his favorite aunt, Max Livingstone; niece, Sandra Forde; great-niece, Michelle Boughan; and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jeannie Ash, and his brother, Don Holder.

The family will receive friends at Whitlock Mortuary from 5pm – 7pm Monday, June 22, 2025.
