Obituary

Mr. Dan Scott Carter, age 51, of Toccoa, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2026 from injuries he received in an automobile accident in Franklin County, GA.

Born August 13, 1975 in Toccoa, he was the son of Sandra Carter Wills and the late Dan Carter.

Scotty was a kind person that would help anyone. He graduated from Stephens County High School in 1993, and lived in Toccoa all of his life. He rebuilt an engine in a 1967 Black Chevelle during his high school years. Everyone in his graduating class had to have at least one ride in it before the end of the year. It was his pride and joy. He attended North Georgia Technical College, where he earned an Engineering Degree in Automotive Technology in 1995. He was of the Baptist faith. He worked at Morgan Concrete several years, and then went to work with his dad at “C and C” Logging Company. After his accident in 2012, he had to retire early. He was an avid bass fisherman and deer hunter.

Family members include his mother and step-dad, Sandra and Charles Wills, of Toccoa; aunts, Frances Ivester and Judy Dean, both of Toccoa; uncle, David Sewell, of Toccoa; special aunt, Tassie Carter Gomez, of Toccoa, whom he considered a second mom and was his best friend; one special cousin, Little Rylan Ivester, whom they were fishing buddies and they loved each other dearly; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his best friend, his dog, Winston.

A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Toccoa Stephens County Humane Shelter, 1747 Scenic Drive, Toccoa, GA 30577, in honor of Scott Carter.

“I thought of you today, but that is nothing new.

I thought of you yesterday, and will tomorrow, too.

I think of you in silence and make no outward show,

For what it meant to lose you, only those who loved you know.

I do it every day.

It’s the heartache of losing you that will never go away.

That only God can help me, today and tomorrow.

I love you, my son,

Mom.”

John 3:16
